"Celtics point guard Rajon Rondo [stats] has been suspended for two games by the NBA for an incident with Nets forward Kris Humphries, Celtics [team stats] president of basketball operations Danny Ainge said today.
Ainge made the announcement while appearing on WEEI radio, the Celtics' flagship station.
Earlier today, an unapologetic Rajon Rondo told reporters that he had spoken to NBA officials this morning, and gave his version of what happened during what he described as a "pushing war" with Humphries.
Rondo, who did not meet the media following the Celtics' loss to the Nets last night, insisted that "I'm not a dirty player.
"I play the game hard," he maintained. "I play the game with an edge. I'm not a trash talker."
Rondo was taking exception to a hard foul Humphries committed against Celtics center Kevin Garnett. Rondo charged Humphries, forcing him back into the first row of spectators under the Celtics basket. A small melee ensued before order was restored.
Rondo was ejected, ending his run of 37 straight games with 10-or-more assists.
Humphries was also ejected.
Rondo was asked about his absence hurting the team.
