Abraham On Toucher & Rich: The Sox Need Pitching
WBZ-TV - Breaking News, Weather and Sports for Boston, Worcester and New Hampshire found this 5 months ago on boston.cbslocal.com

There have been talk that the Red Sox and Kansas City Royals have talked about a trade involving Sox pitcher Jon Lester for Royals top prospect Wil Myers. Other reports say that the Sox are interested in signing three free agents in Mike Napoli, Nick Swisher and Cody Ross.

Peter Abraham of the Boston Globe joined 98.5 The Sports Hub’s Toucher & Rich to discuss these offseason rumors with the winter meetings approaching.

Abraham really doesn’t care for the trade that would move Jon Lester.

“They need pitching, I don’t see how the Red Sox get better by trading one of their two best starting pitchers. They need a starter already so if you trade Lester now you’re going to need two.”

He believes that this kind of move wouldn’t make the team better for the next season. Three or four year down the road maybe it would, but he doesn’t feel that the Sox are that kind of team. Is it time to rebuild though?

“If they were going to do that then why sign 37-year-old David Ortiz for a couple years? You might as well let him go too because he’s not part of the future.”

Abraham thinks that if you’re trading Lester you need to get more back than just a corner outfielder prospect. Plus, why would Kansas City want to trade away a top prospect like Myers?

The guys went on to discuss players that are in free agency and the possibility of the Sox signing Nick Swisher. Swisher is reportedly looking for a $100 million dollar contract and four years maybe even more, but do the Sox want to spend that much for that guy?
