WBZ-TV - Breaking News, Weather and Sports for Boston, Worcester and New Hampshire found this 6 months ago on boston.cbslocal.com

BOSTON (CBS) -  Lt. Gov. Tim Murray raised some eyebrows Thursday morning when he told members of the Greater Boston Chamber of Commerce he would like to be governor.

Murray was the keynote speaker at the chamber’s Government Affairs Forum.

“I would like to be governor, I think it’s OK to say that out loud,” Murray said.

Despite the statement, Murray said he is not ready to throw his hat in the ring for 2014 just yet.

“I’m not going to rush into anything,” Murray said. “I’m going to make my decision in due course and prepare accordingly.”

Murray has been mentioned as a possible gubernatorial candidate in 2014. Murray would also take over as governor should Gov. Deval Patrick leave for a job in President Barack Obama’s cabinet.

Last week, Patrick was invited to dinner with President Obama, fueling rumors that Patrick is headed to Washington.

With current Attorney General Eric Holder considering stepping down after President Obama begins his second term, some have speculated that Patrick would be considered a candidate for Holder?s job.

Patrick has repeatedly said he intends to serve out the remainder of his current four-year term, which ends in 2014.

Murray told reporters after Thursday’s forum that Patrick is not going anywhere.

“The governor is not going to Washington, I can assure you of that,” Murray said.
