Now that the Boston Celtics amazing run has come to an end its time to take a look into the crystal ball and see what kind of roster they might come back with next season.  The talk all season has been that this will be the end of the big 3 era.  Paul Pierce, Rajon Rondo, Avery Bradley, and JuJuan Johnson are the only players under contract going into next season.  The Celtics can make a qualifying offer to Greg Stiemsma which is likely and Brandon Bass has a player option of 4 million dollars which will likely be declined as he will look to cash in on a solid season.  Kevin Garnett and Ray Allen are no longer under contract and that will be the talk of the entire off season.  I think the Celtics have the best shot at signing Garnett to a 1 year deal somewhere around 8-10 million a season. Ray Allen still has some good basketball left but I think he will need to take a big home town discount to put on a Celtics uniform again. The Celtics have money to bring back Jeff Green who was badly missed this season.  He can backup Paul Pierce and even play some power forward, albeit a bit undersized.  Green can stretch the floor and is still very young.  I would like the Celtics to give him a multi year deal because he can be a solid part of the core the next few seasons
I think the most important and first thing the Celtics should do is sign Garnett to a 1 year deal.  He proved that he still has a high level of basketball left and the Celtics don't have to make a long term commitment if they can sign him for a 1 year deal.  The Celtics will need to sign Bass to a long term deal and get another quality big through free agency so that they can limit his minutes during the regular season. I think if they can get Ray Allen to sign a 1 or 2 year deal at about 6-7 million a season they should entertain that offer.  There isn't a lot of shooting available via free agency this off season so Ray Allen might be your best bet.  They can see if he is willing to come off the bench and back up Avery Bradley who has proven that he can be a starter in this league.
I also think the Celtics should/will bring back Mickael Pietrus who is a good defender off of the bench with the ability to hit outside shots.  I think the Celtics main focus outside of what I've already talked about is a backup scoring point guard, and two quality big guys. Let's take a look at some realistic targets the Celtics may target to fill out next seasons roster.
Guards- Nick Young, Gorin Dragic, Jonny Flynn
Forwards - Carl Landry, Steve Novak
Centers - Kris Humphries, Spencer Hawes, Chris Wilcox
Nick Young probably isn't realistic. I don't think he fits into what Doc Rivers and Danny Ainge have in mind. He is a scoring machine at times but take ill advised shots and isn't known for his defense.  I wouldn't mind seeing Flynn get a shot. He was a top 10 pick and hasn't really put it all together. I think there is some upside there and coming off the bench surrounded by some veterans I think he can excel in the NBA.
I like Carl Landry as a back to the basket player who is big and physical down low.  He would be a good compliments to KG and Bass and would bring some toughness down low. He shoots a high field goal percentage.  Steve Novak is a bit of a stretch as he is likely to re-sign with the Knicks and will demand more money than the Celtics are willing to pay.
I like Spencer Hawes but I'm not sure Danny Ainge will want to pay him the money he is going to demand.  Kris Humphries is also an option but will be looking for a deal somewhere in the 3-4 years range.
The Celtics also have 2 first round picks and a 2nd. Here is my projection for the 15 man roster heading into next year.

Rajon Rondo Avery Bradley Paul Pierce Carl Landry Kevin Garnett
Jeff Green Johnny Flynn Brandon Bass Greg Steitsma Mickeal Pietrus E'Tuwan Moore Chris Wilcox
  3 draft picks.
This roster would allow the Celtics to be competitive next season and they wouldn't be giving big money to anyone where they would be in a bad salary cap situation in the coming years after Garnett and Pierce move on.
