The two words every sports fan loves to hear "Game Seven". Tomorrow in South Beach the Miami Heat will look to make it back to back appearances in the NBA Finals. Standing in their way are the Boston Celtics who are so close to yet another NBA Finals appearance in the Big 3 era.
The Boston Celtics headed home to Boston with the series lead 3-2 and just 1 win away from wrapping up the series and heading to the NBA Finals. Nobody knew what to expect from the Miami Heat who were written off by all the experts for their home loss to Boston on Tuesday night. LeBron James came out and put up a performance for the ages. James came out on fire and carried the Heat to a big win to shift the series back to Miami and momentum back with the Heat. LeBron scored 45 points, grabbed 15 rebounds, and dished out 5 assits. What made this performance even more impressive was that he made 19 out of 26 shots (73%). The rest of the Miami Heat struggled to make baskets but really the game was never in serious contention. The Heat built a big leads early and kept it at a comfortable lead. James had 30 points at halftime and really was in the zone the entire night.
For Boston Paul Pierce got in early foul trouble and he wasn't shooting the ball which really put a damper on any hopes the Celtics had at winning. Garnett and Ray Allen were ineffective missing open shots. The Celtics bench which has gotten valuable contributions from guys like Pietrus, Daniels, and Dooling got nothing. You can say that Rajon Rondo was the only Celtic to put a complete game together. Rondo scored 21 points and added 10 assists but that was not good enough as the Celtics couldn't get any contributions from anyone else.
This Celtics core has gone through their fair share of Game 7's. There was The Hawks and Cavaliers in 2008 en route to the NBA Championship. There was The Bulls and Magic is 2009. There was the heartbreaking game 7 loss against the Lakers in the 2010 NBA Finals and then the grueling 7 game series against Philadelphia in round 2 of this years playoffs. Overall this core is 4-2 in game 7's with 5 of those games being on their home court (4-1). Game 7 against the Lakers was on the road (0-1). The Celtics will have their hands full heading on the road but they have the experience in big games and I expect them to bring their A game and come out strong.
Believe it or not the Celtics played good defense in game 6 for 3 quarters. The defense that was played on James was as good as it can get, he was just in that zone and was making shots. If the Celtics can force LeBron into taking a lot of jump shots I think they will take the chances that he doesn't shoot 73% again. Paul Pierce has to be on the court and needs to score early to get into a rhythm. The Celtics need Ray Allen to hit three point shots and will need contributions from the bench.
For the Heat they will need LeBron James to continue the way he has played averaging over 25 points a game for the series. They will need Chris Bosh to continue to give them positive minutes. And I think to win the game and the series they will need Chalmers, Mike Miller or James Jones to give them 12+ points and be that X-factor.
I think we are set up for what will truely be a great game 7. I hope both teams bring their top performances and we have a good old fashioned game 7 for the ages. I'll go with the Celtics here.
Celtics 95, Heat 94
